Diploma of Business BSB50207

Aim

This qualification reflects the role of individuals with substantive experience in a range of settings and those who are seeking to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions. This qualification is also suited to the needs of individuals with little or no vocational experience, but who possess sound theoretical business skills and knowledge that they would like to further develop in order to create further educational and employment opportunities. This diploma has a business management focus.

Participants

The Diploma of Business is designed for people who have a minimum industry experience of two years in supervisory, management or other leadership role. A Higher School Certificate is not required, provided the applicant can demonstrate the academic capacity to undertake the Diploma. The Diploma is open to both full-time and part-time workers. Because much of the assessment can be done in conjunction with work roles, applicants must be able to demonstrate that their studies are supported by their employer.

Content

The Diploma of Business is a nationally recognised qualification. The eight units selected to meet the needs of our students are:

Unit One: Manage recruitment, selection and induction processes (BSBHRM506A)

This unit covers all aspects of the recruitment, selection and induction process from the perspective of a human resource manager responsible for ensuring the organisation undertakes these processes in accordance with predetermined policies and procedures. The unit will consider the implications and challenges involved in the development of recruitment process which are appropriate and inclusive of both paid and volunteer team members.

Unit Two: Identify and evaluate marketing opportunities (BSBMKG501B)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify, evaluate and take advantage of marketing opportunities by analysing market data, distinguishing the characteristics of possible markets and assessing the viability of changes to operations.

Unit Three: Manage workforce planning (BSBHRM504A)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan workforce strategies to achieve organisational goals and objectives. It includes aligning workforce objectives with business plans, analysing labour market trends and predictions, and designing strategies and succession plans to ensure a competent and appropriately diverse workforce is available to meet anticipated changes.

Unit Four: Manage programs that promote personal effectiveness(BSBLED502A)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage programs within a health and wellbeing focus. The unit addresses the management of the range of programs that would typically be associated with health and wellbeing such as stress management, smoking cessation, exercise, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

Unit Five: Manage projects (BSBPMG510A)

This unit covers the management of a project or a selection of a large project. Students will apply project management skills, meeting timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project.

Unit Six: Manage an information or knowledge management system (BSBINM501A)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to organise learning to use an information or knowledge management system and to manage the use of the system.

Unit Seven: Manage risk (BSBRSK501A)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across the organisation or for a specific business unit or area. The unit has been designed to be consistent with AS/NZS 4360:2004 Risk management.

Unit Eight: Manage personal work priorities and professional development (BSBWOR501A)

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage own performance and professional development. Particular emphasis is on setting and meeting priorities, analysing information and using a range of strategies to develop further competence.

Starting Point

Enrolments will be accepted for the full Diploma course or for individual units. Students wishing to enrol in individual units should discuss their requirements with School staff.

Employability Skills

The application of Employability Skills – communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management, learning and technology – are holistically assessed in the evidence gathering techniques against the relevant industry approaches and employability skill framework. Delivery

The Diploma is available externally by part-time study for students completing it by formal course work. The training delivery method is by Distance Learning, with individual tutor support.

Duration

The minimum time required to complete all requirements of the Diploma is one year, and it is expected that students will complete the course within two years.

Support

On enrolment each student is allocated a tutor who will support the student throughout the course. Contact with the tutor will be not less than monthly and will be in accordance with the tutoring schedule agreed between student and tutor.
