Diploma of Management BSB51107
AimStudents will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake management and leadership roles in not-for-profit organisations, where the workplace context includes both paid and volunteer team members. ParticipantsThe Diploma of Management is designed for people who have a minimum industry experience of two years, directly managing or coordinating teams consisting of paid staff and volunteers. A Higher School Certificate is not required, provided the applicant can demonstrate the academic capacity to undertake the Diploma. The Diploma is open to both full-time and part-time workers. Because much of the assessment can be done in conjunction with work roles, applicants must be able to demonstrate that their studies are supported by their employer. |

Unit One: Manage people performance (BSBHRM506A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage the performance of staff who report to them directly. Development of key result areas and key performance indicators and standards, coupled with regular and timely coaching and feedback, provide the basis for performance management.
Unit Two: Manage budgets and financial plans (BSBFIM501A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management within a work team in an organisation. This includes planning and implementing financial management approaches, supporting team members whose role involves aspects of financial operations, monitoring and controlling finances, and reviewing and evaluating effectiveness of financial management processes in line with the financial objectives of the work team and the organisation.
Unit Three: Manage risk (BSBRSK501A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across the organisation or for a specific business unit or area. The unit has been designed to be consistent with AS/NZS 4360:2004 Risk management.
Unit Four: Ensure a safe workplace (BSBOHS509A)
This unit is concerned with establishing, maintaining and evaluating the organisation's Occupational Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety legal requirements.
Unit Five: Ensure team effectiveness (BSBWOR502A)
This unit explores the manager's key role in facilitating all aspects of team work within an organisation. It involves taking a leadership role in the development of team plans, leading and facilitating team work and actively engaging with the management of the organisation. Managers play an important part in motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing team members, and in achieving team cohesion.
Unit Six: Manage an information or knowledge management system (BSBINM501A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to organise learning to use an information or knowledge management system and to manage the use of the system.
Unit Seven: Manage conflict (BSBATSIL503B)
This unit explores the impact of organisational and workplace conflict on a range of stakeholders, including the Board, the organisation, the community and the wider community. Students will identify sources and strategies to manage and resolve conflict in their organisations.
Unit Eight: Facilitate continuous improvement (BSBMGT516A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to lead and manage continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on the development of systems and the analysis of information to monitor and adjust performance strategies, and to manage opportunities for further improvements.
Starting Point
Enrolments will be accepted for the full Diploma course or for individual units. Students wishing to enrol in individual units should discuss their requirements with School staff.
Employability Skills
The application of Employability Skills – communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management, learning and technology – are holistically assessed in the evidence gathering techniques against the relevant industry approaches and employability skill framework. The Diploma is available externally by correspondence, including tutor support.

Duration
The minimum time required to complete all requirements of the Diploma, by either mode of delivery, is one year. Students may wish to extend their studies over a longer period. It is expected that students could complete the course in two years of part-time study.
Support
On enrolment each student is allocated a tutor who will support the student throughout the course. Contact with the tutor will be not less than monthly and will be in accordance with the tutoring schedule agreed between student and tutor.
